Reduce the whitespace in non-print documents.

Word processor User Interfaces come from the age of the typewriter via “Desktop Publishing” and are oriented towards the printed document .

If a document is not intended for print (e.g. it’s for planning/brainstorming) consider the following changes:

  • Reduce the margin size in File>Page setup
  • Consider using a wider Paper Size, so you get the most on a single page
  • Use Edit>Select all (ctrl-a) and reduce the font size.
  • Use View>Compact controls to hide page breaks and menus.
