This neat feature lets you simply convert text to columns in Google Sheets.

There are a variety of ways to bring data into a Google Sheet.

For small amounts of data you wish to copy and paste inside a Sheet, here is a nice technique to simply convert text into columns.

The text needs to have a standard delimiter including commas, semicolons, periods, spaces, and also custom separators you can define yourself.

To use this technique in Google Sheets, simply follow these steps:

  • Paste in the Text
  • Select the cells you wish to work with
  • Use Data > Split text to columns

This will present a small menu enabling you to select the separator or you can specify a custom one.
